LEARNING TO LOVE

How to love God's way

Let's start off by locating love in the manual:

  • John 13:34 A new commandment I give you to love..

  • Ephesians 4:2 bear with one another in love

  • 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 love definition

  • 1 Corinthians 16:14 Do everything in love

  • Galatians 5:6 faith working through love

Love is not a feeling or an emotion but a choice; to be patient, kind, not holding past hurt, it is not jealous or rude, the list goes on a bit in

1 Corinthians but it says that love never ends...love then is unconditional. Love is not determined on transaction or physical attributes. Love never fails.

For so long we have determined love on the bases of Hollywood, Hallmark and the world but it has been clear to me that their way of loving does not reflect with the way God wants us to love and show love to others. To readjust we must seek God's grace, but the best way to start is in His word. Don't just listen to God's word, we must also do what it says (James 1:22). God came and tested His instructions Himself through Jesus' life on earth. Nothing is more hilarous than when you're being tested with those really hard to love people who you wish can go away so you won't have to deal with them. I have had family members that I found so hard to love but I am and have been reminded of the person I once was and the horrible attitude I had (the Holy Spirit correctss your little attitude lol).

Once upon at time there was this teenager with unresolved anger issues that people had to pray and literally peep in to check her continence before any interactions. Her parents prayed and fasted for years for her deliverance; believe it or not that girl was me. I never knew how they dealt with me during that time but it only could be God who allowed them to be patient, kind, understanding and never seemed frustrated with me. Even when I started at CCCG I remember having such an attitude, but my Pastor, the leaders and members were stilll so loving and accepting of me. I would like to be that person who loves someone inspite of...

Queen Esther

If you keep quiet now help and freedom for the Jews will come from another place...

Esther 4:14

Queen Esther saved so many lives through prayer, fasting and being bold. Imagine being her during that time, to go before a king and speak on behalf of a group of people about to be massacred.

She knew she needed grace to be bold, to share God's word, to help others and to step out in faith. She believed that God would take care of her hence the words,

"If I perish I perish."
Esther was Queen but she respected her uncle (parent) and even in hesitation followed his instruction.

As I refelct on her obedience I often wonder if I could be as bold as she was and if given the same opportunity obey instructions given to me. Sometime a situation may not directly affect us, but because of the position we have we are able to bring about change and make impact on others.
There are many times I would like to remain quiet but I now have the spirit of boldness to fulfill God's assignment.

"If I perish, I perish"

What is faith?

Faith is the ability to put complete trust in something or someone greater than you.

Scriptures on Faith

Let's take a look at a few scriptures that are beneficial when your faith is getting low:

  • Matthew 17:20- Faith to move mountains

  • Hebrews 11:1- The assurance of things hope for..

  • Hebrews 11:6 - It is impossible to please God without faith..

  • John 6:29 - "Believe in Him whom He has sent."

  • Mark 9:25 - All things are possible for the one who believes.

Let's Talk...There's a story in
Matthew 19:16-30

This guy went to Jesus in hopes that he would get a quick fix, a easy answer to get eternal life. He wanted to buy his way into heaven; maybe help someone here or there, some self-righteous act but to his surprise Jesus already saw the flaw. Jesus said follow the commandments, he says "yip I do that already. " Jesus goes a little deeper and says sell your possessions and give to the poor, and follow me then you will have treasure in heaven. When he heard that he was crushed...his possessions, the things that was bought that could be replaced meant more to him than his salvation.

Have you ever gambled or bargained with God? He's directing you to do something or to someone and you're like no but if I do this then we'll be even; or is just me? I'm sure when I went to God in prayer he was like this is the negotiator again!
No no no he meets us where we are I negotiated my  way straight to Cornerstone Christian Church of God in Edmonton and my life was never the same again. There is so much more to gain, but without Him you have everything to lose. With man the things we try to do are IMPOSSIBLE but with God all things are POSSIBLE!

PRAISE

  • ADMIRE

  • RESPECT

  • HONOR

  • SHOW GRATITUDE

  • CELEBRATE

  • COMPLIMENT

1. Psalms 100:4 says to enter His gates with thanksgiving...

2. Daniel 2:23 says thank and praise God

3. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says to be thankful in all circumstances

4. John 4:24 says worship Him in spirit & in truth

5. Philippians 4:6 says do not worry, pray and thank Him for all He has done

One of the most amazing feelings for me had to have been when I accomplished something; graduation, completing a certification, even when my daughter has succeeded in her goals. It gives me a reason to celebrate to have completed a milestone in our journey.

When I was mature enough to comprehend the sacrifices my parents made it gave me a deeper admiration and gratitude toward them. Being a parent myself I have definitely learned to show my appreciation as often and in as many ways as I possibly can. Additionally, I had to relearn honoring them for who they are in spite of their failures and inconsistencies. Every family upbringing is different but the rules remain the same.

I don't know if you feel like I do but it is obvious we had it wrong all along. It is so crazy how in every way we have been learning to oppose what the script says.

Do you want to know something else that is so crazy?

Culture has been teaching us not to praise others or show gratitude toward someone else because it would cause them to be filled with pride or maybe we don't do it because we are filled with pride. Nonetheless, we have been learning not to show respect, honor, praise or gratitude to others. Another thing that may hinder our praises to God or others can be from offence. There was a time when I was offended at God...I know but I was hurt, frustrated and thought all that was going wrong was because of Him and He wouldn't fix it. Now I can see the error in my actions. Find things that you like about someone else and genuinely tell them that you admire it and compliment them. Say Thank you to the people that have been helping and serving you, let your freinds and family know you appreciate them.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

Okay ya'll let's talk about how I initially had a love, hate, fear for

'The Holy Spirit', if any of you felt the same way you gatta tell me the story. I remember I gave my life to Christ and started attending church, as I started to understand what I had agreed to; I became a little uneasy. I didn't know what I signed up for in 'Trinity Team'. I knew and understand the Father and the Son but the Holy Ghost was the one I didn't understand or even like what He did.

I grew up in a Assemblies of God church and I couldn't be certain if this was normal but throughout many of the services there were people that would speak in other languages, run around, shake on the floor, cry all, sorts of things that seem so scary to me and now I was in a spiritual partnership with Him. Over time I started to realize that there are so many dynamic ways that God works in and through us it doesn't necessarliy result in those manifestations.

My introductory encounter with the Holy Spirit was very gentle, warm and loving. My prayer was for comfort and help during that season in my life. And in that moment I felt as if I was getting a warm hug. He stands at the door and knocks (Revelation 3:20), He is always there waiting for you to recieve Him, waiting for you to ask for help or whatever it is that you are going through.

Let's see what the good book says about the Holy Spirit aka the Holy Ghost:

  • 2 Corinthians 3:17 says where the spirit is we have freedom

  • John 14:16 Jesus says He will ask the Father to send a helper

  • John 14:26 Jesus is saying the helper will teach and remind us of things that He said

  • 1 Corinthians says God's spirit which is the Holy Spirit dwells in us

  • Luke 11:13 if we can give good gifts how much more God who gave us the Holy Spirit

It is so cool to see how much we have been accounted for and taken care of in advance; straight VIP service in the Kingdom. There are so many times when I am making a decision and out of nowhere I get an answer...well it wasn't out of nowhere it came from the Holy Spirit. This is how we have advance notice and answers to questions that has yet to be asked. The closer we draw to Him the greater the encounters.

Woman with Bible

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High

Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalms 91:1 NKJV

That secret place was my closet, my bedroom floor, at times even at work, the car wherever was quiet and private. A place where I could spend time with my Father, my savior, my love. Our relationship developed so much when I realized how much He wanted to speak to me, spend time with me and I would Him.  It is so amazing to find someone that loves you so much and has made privision in advance for our needs (Philippians 4:19). Be reminded there is nothing you can do to repay Him for His love for us. His love is consistent even when we fail, when we make mistakes He awaits our repentance and request from us for Him to lead.
