GIRL HOW YOU GONNA GET A BOAZ IF YOU DON'T WANNA BE A RUTH
Ruth 1:16 NLT
Ruth replied, "Don't ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!"
Yes I want my Boaz! But are you willing to sacrifice like Ruth? The excitement behind finding your Boaz is really cute, we have heard all the testimonies on how women all over the globe have been finding their Boaz and then you sit and wonder well what happen to me...did God forget me? When Ruth told Naomi these powerful words I wondered if she was serious, is this girl crazy or what? People speak endlessly about their in-laws but this girl doesn't want to leave her mother-in-law even after her husband died. It speaks volumes about Naomi's character, her personality, and her nature. It is obvious she saw Naomi as a leader, Ruth knew Naomi had a God, that if she has good character then she must come from good roots.
Ruth on the otherhand, was a woman that submitted. That is so significant, she knew who could lead and was willing to submit even knowing that she had a way of escape. The meaning of sub is to be under, to be a subordinate and mission is a calling, pursuit or goal. Naomi followed a woman who had a goal and was willing to follow that goal at all cost until death. You cannot follow a vision you do not believe in. I love this relationship with both of them because it is a reflection of love, respect, commitment and faith. Although this relationship is like that of a mother and daughter this is quite the example of what a marriage should look like. There is no power struggle, there is no forced anything: love, vision or sacrifice; both understood the other and knew how to correspond. Ruth was other; other race, nationality, culture, belief, religion. Ruth had to work and provide for their household. And although she knew she would be different, that she would stand out she still followed the plan and was still willing to sacrifice for it.
There is so much I took from this story and as I reflect on the magnitiude and depth of it I keep trying to understand why would she sacrifice so much, her freedom, comfort, family and assurance that she would find another husband in her home land. Was she not even worrying about finding a husband anymore? Her mother-in-law didn't have other sons, she had no help. She went to work not knowing her husband was already there, he had already seen her and had already favored her. He was a man running a 'business', he had a vision. Ruth was a grateful, submissive, caring and thoughtful woman. It was easy for him to notice her...she stood out; in every way she was someone that he noticed. Ruth was so humble; Naomi realized what God was doing, she perceived that this would be the right direction for Ruth and instructed Ruth to go to Boaz. Although Boaz favored Ruth, he did not pursue her. That took boldness, courage, tenacity and audasiousness.
I don't know if some of you feel the way I do but I had this notion in my head that the guy is supposed to chase you, seek you out or wine and dine you. Let's be real here movies really form our reality, even as people of God. Dating and courting looked like Hallmark movies for me. it was hard to see past what I had already formed as beliefs to knowing God's way is so creative and different every time. There were not two Boaz's in the Bible there was not another love story that went this exact way but God makes a way for his name to be glorified.
God's divine plan comes through obedience, faith and sacrifice. And comes with hard work, love, patience, willingness and favor. Girl how will you get a Boaz if you don't want to be a Ruth?
Have you found your Boaz? Tell me how did that story play out?
