HOW TO STUDY THE BIBLE

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10:17

Studying the Bible (how, who and when) knowing the prophetic word/promises, instructions and words of revelation.

Beginning this journey with Christ I remember trying to read the Bible and it was frustrating and when I was done it felt like I never read anything, this was before I ever knew about the Holy Spirit and asking God to get involved with my daily journey. I read the book 'Good Morning, Holy Spirit' by Benny Hinn and found even more knowledge of how to trust my daily walk with God.

I went from devotional to devotional, reading the Bible in a year, adding the Bible app and reading the scripture of the day, being apart of Bible challenges and none of those amazing things allowed me to have an encounter with God while reading the word like asking God for direction and Him inspiring specific scriptures. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Reading the word of God there are times through the word there is correction in beliefs, thoughts, actions and sometime even words that has been shared to someone, in doctrine there has been a mind transformation with knowing the principles of the word of God and not the rules and regulations that has been implemented and created by man. God is so humorous on they way He guides each and every one of us differently. What He wants for you may not be what He wants for me hence I walk and study of God's word will be different. There were times when friends had been corrected through the word but that was for them not for me and trying to implement something that was not for me was more frustrating to me than anything else.

After my new found revelation on how I can read and study the Bible it was now time to put this studying to action. Before explaining let me also let you know about how I heard a word, this word was for me. God just sent His light to shine on this moment in a conversation with my Pastor's wife (Pastor Ibunken). When she talks about her favorite Bible character Joseph he sounds like a regular person, like someone she met. I wanted that I did not want to just be able to memorize scriptures (I tried and it was a epic failure) but I wanted to tell it like a story make it juicy like my personality. I realized in that moment that our relationship with God and reading or studying the word depends on us. I started reading Bible characters, then as I started to understand a bit more I read scriptures based on topics for instance I wrote out scriptures about love, needing help, how to grow and as these scriptures fed my spirit I grew and become closer to God in the process. The feeling of tiredness, boredom and frustration ceased as I would read these words and see the story in my minds eye. I could see Ruth and Naomi as they walk in the heat back to Moab, I could picture David running and hiding from Samuel and instead for trying to time myself in completing "the task" I began just reliving some of these Bible stories how did these characters feel while going through their situation, read the scripture in different versions of the Bible to get a different sense of the story.

The church that I attend has been amazing on the way they teach, which is based on a series of topics every 4-5 weeks to expand on different scriptures from that topic. Studying for me no longer felt like a chore or something to mark on my list of things to do. There are days though when the bed feels so sweet and I have to literally drag myself in my secret spot where it is just me and God (closet, couch, prayer nook) create a quiet undistracted space that is set aside around the same time to spend with God.

Honestly, I tried reading the Bible in a year it never happened nor do I think I was doing it for the right reason but even if I only read half of the Bible I feel more full and graced with what I have than to say I was able to read the entire tire thing in a year. If you have just begun this journey just like any other relationship it will take time to grow and gain trust. Some things to know God loves, consistency, He does not like waste (no wasting time or resources) if there is something that need to be done He will allow or create the opportunity but the effort is on you to get it done.

In studying the word you can get revelation on anything you've been asking for, you find purpose, you are strengthened and find hope. Every word of God proves true-Proverbs 30:5. Daniel 2:22 says He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him. True revelation comes through light; God being light and he reveals Himself to a person, like when Moses returned from Mt. Sinai. The children of Israel knew what it meant for Moses to shine. They knew he receieved revelation (understanding, a word from God or clarification on a matter).

In conclusion studying God's word should no longer be frustrating but fruitful, inspiring and a revelation every time you interact with it. Every single day there is something God wants to say to you and reveal to you, you may miss out on the scoop if you do not spend time with Him through His word.
