HOW WE MET & OUR JOURNEY INTO MARRIAGE

Genesis 2:18 NLT

Now the Lord said, "it is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable and complementary for him."

Last weeks YouTube post were testimonies from a couple, Paul & Kenchera they're both now family to me. Though as a friend I knew some portions of their beautiful love story, but it was amazing to be apart of the recording and editing of their video. When we reflect on the detail and interest that God has in our lives, who will complement the other, when is the right time and the many other character details, where we go, when we get there etc it amazes me. I remember speaking to Kay a few years ago as she ended a relationship that was not fruitful and brought much agony. She and I met at a cultrual festival some years ago and we were sisters ever since. We spent many evenings sitting and chatting about our lives, relationships and what God was doing. But now as God has taken her into this new season I can now see why some things happened the way it did.

Kay and Paul met while walking her dog "Ken" who she loved so dearly (RIP he passed away during the time I was writing this post). Both Paul and Kay lived in Edmonton at the time, I remember her beaming as she spoke of this guy who she met. But within a few weeks he had moved to Toronto and that began a 3 year long distance relationship. She seemed so excited about this new journey she was about to embark on. We met a few months before they got married discussing the location and other details and I was thinking wow this is real, she is so brave. As I listened to the recording over and over to edit I realized that it was not just me with the same fears and runaway tactics lol. Although, she loved Paul trusted and believed that God was concerned for every aspect of her life she was still afraid. She was concerned about his devotion to the Father, how the relationship could continue and being equally yoked.

How can two walk together if they are not in agreement? She did not want to find out. My understanding of this scripture has been magnified to me in so many ways, because two people can be Christians but have conflicting beliefs about God, devotion, prayer or praise and even more about where to worship. When they first met Paul was not a Christian...but within a few weeks to months later he had an encounter with God that changed his life forever and he devoted his life to Christ. Today they are one of the many testimonies of 'God's Love Story.'

Many testimonies of how God worked on and in many relationships sounded so angelic and magical. I didn't ever hear about any break-ups and situationships that were a little off script. I loved their truth, the practicality of it all and reality, two inperfect people one afraid to commit, neither certain of how to develop and sustain a godly long-distance relationship but within their understanding made it work and continuing to make it work in marriage. The most difficult test must've been to sustain a relationship and plan a destination wedding during COVID-19. It was time, now came the shutdowns, lockdowns and curfews the decision was easy. This took the pressure and stress out of planning and traveling for the wedding, they had an intimate wedding with their loved one's watching via zoom. "This was definitely different but worth it" as Kay expressed.

Kay and Paul, they have devoted their marriage to Christ believing that their testimony can help many other singles and other godly relationships; they certainly impacted my life and I truly pray that it will do the same for your relationship, marriage and help you during your single season. The relationship will not and cannot be perfect, remember that this person is coming packed with luggage inclusive of a past, of fears, of pain, of insecurities and movie script you may not be able to fulfill but understanding, vocalizing, praying, decerning the issues and needs are of grave importance.

What was the major take away for you from this lovely story? Are you in a relationship uncertain of which direction to continue? Are you yoked already and would like to just talk? connect with us, comment we would like to hear from you. Until next time...
