I HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR...

For we who have believed enter that rest, although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Hebrews 4:3

I am always so amazed when I come in contact with a couple and find out they've been married for...10, 20, 30 years. How did you have intimacy, love and honor one person for so long? It just amazes me but what I have also realized is that in some cases for many years they had not entered a place of rest. They toiled, argued, faught, had break-up's, and sometimes extra relationships prior to getting to a place of resolution, understanding and peace. In this weeks YouTube post Married in Christ series 'The Russells' dive into what had been some of their major issues in marriage; it was intimacy, communication and understanding of each other. The thought of marriage, having a life partner seems so easy, but if you've always had poor communication, or lacked being able to be vulnerable. Additionally, if you've had issues with spending (spending too much or too little), understanding what running a home intails marriage can feel burdensome, frustrating and overwhelming. I have had the distinct pleasure in being mentored by this couple and it initially opened my eyes to the world of marriage.

Tamico and Doreen has been married for 16 years with the latter being greater than the former, they've gotten to the place of rest. This place of rest is having faith in God, obeying His command (to LOVE) and no longer toiling, trying to do it on their own. I had been taught the true meaning of love which is not a feeling or emotion, it does not turn on or off, and it is not about being sexual or having sex. For so long Hollywood, Hallmark and Cupid (the world) has given us a definition of love and it's nature which is not true. This has probably been the cause for so many failed marriages. If the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do?-Psalm 11:3 but there is hope. After a time of separation 'The Russells' not only gave it to God they obeyed His word. In order to obey there had to also be understanding; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 highlights God's definition of LOVE. Love is patient, kind, it is not jealous, doesn't brag, or is proud, rude or selfish, it is not angered easily, love does not remember wrong, nor is it happy when others do wrong, it never gives up, never stops trusting, never loses hope, or quits, this kind of love never ends. Wow this got real, real fast! lol the first command is to love and making that the foundation it helps to build a better relationship. Ephesians 5:33 but each one of you must love his wife as he loves himself. And a wife must respect her husband. We've defined love, now let's understand respect. Wikipedia defined respect; to reverence, honor, admire, appreciate or praise. The bible says to submit to your governing authority, God knew that once love is filled in the relationship tank submission and respect can flow. The place of rest is the place when the relationship becomes easier when you follow the right steps.
