LEARNING DAILY

Where there is no vision (no revelation of God and His word), the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law (of God).

Proverbs 29:18 AMP

This situation has played out in my mind so many times I felt as though it has already been told, but I kept my niece and nephew on the weekend the background is; their parents do not attend church nor are they Christians. My nephew was laying on the ground right next to me as I watched something on the television, he had his Ipad watching a show on YouTube. But at some point the Pastor was praying and there was singing. Shortly thereafter, I could hear my nephew repeating the prayer that had already been completed. I paused for a few seconds to listen to see if he was playing or he actually processed everything that was said while being busy in his device. He was not playing he was repeating the prayer, there were a few other things that stood out to me during the weekend visit but today I would like to talk about how we must teach our kids what we are learning, explain to them what you've understood and allow them to ask questions.

I was reminded while listening to him of where I came from. I attended church very often as a child but for some reason the knowledge and understanding got away from me. I know how much children can store information and it is best when they are young, after hearing him I knew I needed to spend some time teaching him a little more about God. We did a devotion together and again they both amazed me with their answers. Train a child up in the way they should go and they will not depart -Proverbs 22:6. I am not sure but somewhere along the way I think I started to believe that once my family and I went to church then all will be well, I did not have to spend the time teaching the word of God. After I really changed my life I just knew (the Holy Spiirt gave me the revelation through knowing) that I needed to teach my daughter and explain what God was doing. The patience, understanding and knowledge came to explain and what I did not understand we looked up. This allowed us to grow together. Praying and spending time in the word with the people we love stregthens our intimacy and emotional connection with them.

I read a post no later than yesterday that I really admired from a Bahamian MUA, both her and her daughter would do YouVersion-The Bible app plans together. This really amazed me because she is such an influencer and what she was showing her almost 19,000 followers is 1. she spends time in the word and 2. she is teaching her daughter about God.

What am I saying all of this for?

My point is that you to must train up your child in the way they should go or the way you want them to go. Which way do you want them to go? In the things of God or the things in the world; when you can answer that question then you need to figure out a plan based on the personality type of you and your children. Are you going to sit and have a devotion with them once a week or use the bible app asking questions to see what they are understanding and how they are growing in God. There are so many ways you can go about opening dialog with them and allowing them to say what they think or understand without them feeling as if they are wrong in their understanding but add to their knowledge. They are listening and watching give them the opportunity to ask questions, while building a relationship with both you and God. Seek help if you find it difficult, read blogs in this area and listen to podcasts that will help you.
