SOW SPARINGLY, REAP SPARINGLY

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

2 Corinthians 9:6

Is it just me when I heard any Pastor, preacher or priest even mention sowing I would cringe? But guess what when you sow into fertile soil, a good quality home you would never feel as if you are being deceived or being pawned. I heard sermons time and time again and ran for the hills when it came to sowing; but I misunderstood what was being taught in the word about sowing and today I woud like for you to open your hearts to receiving a new revelation on sowing.

The meaning of sowing is to plant something in hope to receive later. As we understand the things of God the reality is many things we are discussing are things that we are not able to see but we see and feel the effects them. We sow into lives daily in conversations as we support our friends, family and even co-workers through encouraging conversations, finances and helping when needed. We do this for ministries, organizations and individuals. Conversation and time are things we are unable to see when it is gone that's it, but it is of much value and God understands that. When we sow our time into our relationship with Him we see spiritual growth (ability to complete greater tasks and receive blessings), as well as when we sow into our local church He sees that as you being an extension of Him and helping His children indivudally. Sowing is not only in giving financially but also giving of your time and talent (what can you do to help?).

Before I found a church home I first prayed about it and I asked God's guidance on where to be fed. For more reasons than one I did not think of it as being important. I church hopped for a few months, that later resulted in me not attending church at all but I was seeking spiritual growth. Finding a church can seem so tedious but all it takes is asking God's guidance. He cares about every aspect of our lives and that certainly includes where you will grow in Him, in understanding who He is, and His love for you. I took a while before seeking God's guidance but when I did and found my church home and within weeks I had been planted into a ministry where many of my past concerns were no longer an issue. Like any other relationship I grew when I was able to trust!

Sowing is an investment, you are coming into an agreement with what is being endorsed. Yes, sowing is also financial and by scripture it will be multiplied; also your time and gifts (these are things we needed in the community). When I no longer worked a secular job I became very concerned how I would be able to continue to sow into the lives of others as well as my church but inquired further and I came to understand that money was not the only way I needed to sow. Please allow me to clarify that I not talking about tithing (a tenth of whatever you've made) but I am solely speaking about sowing- time, money or talents. Planting and sowing are words that are interchangeable. The word says what we sow we reap and the world says what goes around comes back to you (karma-stemming from Hinduism), this system says that there is a cause and effect, what you give you will get in return. This has been taught in the word and manufactured in different forms in the world but one credit is in Genesis when Isaac sowed in that land he reaped in that land and Matthew explains that there are numerous kinds of soil where we can sow (rocky, among thorns and good- Matthew 13:4-9). When we consider sowing our time into a relationship, friendship or mentorship we expect rewarding results-blessings. Just as much as sowing is not only financial nor is what will be reaped, blessings are not only in finances but it comes in different forms as things that can benefit us or help us.

A few weeks ago there was information I got after sitting in a class, this was a blessing to me because this was information possibly valued at $1,500. I am not being spiritual about this, it was very simple I actually was calling around to inquire on what I needed for my business prior to this class and sat in a class that cost me nothing and received something of such great value (a blessing). There are so many ways you can be blessed and sowing is a sure factor to receiving blessings. Let me clarify a little I sowed my time into a class and reaped the rewards-blessing for my business.

What are you sowing? or what are you investing? When we sow negative words we see the results from those negative words. Proverbs 18:21 says life and death is in the power of our tongue. We have full power over what we receive in our lives based on what we say, do or give. If you have sown bad words it is inevidable that what will come will be negative. I had so many thoughts that were impure and would speak it aloud to others and when it happened I would boast telling people that I knew what I said would happen, as if it was such a good thing. But what I thought I was doing was clarifying that I knew something would happen, but it was me that spoke it. Until I got a new understanding and started sowing only positive declarations over my life and the life of my family, and every expectation is a result of biblical truths. Days when life may feel overwhelming I am very careful not to speak anything that I would not like to see happen in my life. There is a story in Genesis about Noah that I was light to me (Genesis 9:20-27) words that can be sown into our lives by our authority's (parents, pastors and husbands). This is a biblical truth that may have been watered down and misunderstood but Noah's son dishonored him speaking of Noah's disposition and was cursed by his father while his brothers were blessed. This seed was sown because of a principle that God placed on this earth and was honored although we may say it was harsh. Reaping positive or negative results depends on what has been sown. What have you been sowing?
